Active Minds

The University of Maine's Active Minds

Active Minds is an advocacy group on the University of Maine campus. Their goal is to end the stigma surrounding mental illness and provide support to those struggling with it.

"Active Minds is an organization working to utilize the student voice to change the conversation about mental health on college campuses. By developing and supporting chapters of a student-run mental health awareness, education, and advocacy group on campuses, the organization works to increase students' awareness of mental health issues, provide information and resources regarding mental health and mental illness, encourage students to seek help as soon as it is needed, and serve as a liaison between students and the mental health community."

One of the biggest challenges faced by the mental health community is the feeling of being silenced and isolated from other people. Active Minds provides support and resources for students who need it.

Throughout the semester, they organize events such as the Mental Health Monologues to raise awareness for the mental health community. They are a great resource for students and deserve to be recognized.

We are lucky to have Active Minds on our campus and we hope that the word gets out about this important resource that's available for our campus community.

If you are interested in joining, or would like to attend their meetings, Spring meetings are held on Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m., in the Lown Room of the Memorial Union. Fall meetings are held at 6 p.m. in the Senior Skulls Room in the memorial Union.
